We can arrange temporary accommodation and car hire in a guest house (homestay) for your first few days or weeks after arrival in New Zealand.

We find that new arrivals staying in the supportive environment of the guest houses that we support, generally find their feet faster in their new country, frequently find a job faster, and generally find that the settling in process is a lot less stressful than if they would have stayed in a hotel or motel. We therefore strongly recommend staying in one of these guest houses, especially if it is your first trip to New Zealand. There are many benefits of staying in a guest house:

  • The rates are much lower than in a hotel or motel.
  • The quality of the accommodation is the same as those of hotels or motels with a much higher rate.
  • We make use of guest houses and hpomestays run by ex-immigrants. You will therefore get very valuable advice from somebody who went through the same process.
  • While it is advisable to make Kiwi friends as soon as possible, you will also immediately start to build up contacts and get involved in the network of expats.

At the guest house you will have free access to the internet, email and local telephone calls. Local calls in New Zealand are free, but not if you dial from a pay phone at a hotel or motel. You will have to make many phone calls during the job search and settling in process, so the savings on your phone bill alone will be substantial. You will also have the convenience of having internet and email available for the job search process and for staying in touch with relatives.

We normally book our clients into guest houses and homestays in the Torbay / Browns Bay area on the North Shore of Auckland, because it is very close to our own office for assistance with the immigration process. You will normally make a number of trips to our office during the initial period.  We can, however, also arrange accommodation in guest houses in other parts of Auckland or elsewhere in New Zealand.

The rates for accommodation are approximately as follows (12.5% GST excluded):

Single person: $40 to $45 per day (bed and breakfast) for the first seven days, and $35 per day thereafter.

Couple sharing a room: $60 to $65 per day (bed and breakfast) for the first seven days.  Some homestays offer a reduced rate after the first week.

Children sharing: $10 per day.

Airport pickup: $50.00 to $70.00 per trip, regardless of the number of people.

Car hire: You will normally be able to hire a car from the guest house at lower rates than from car rental places.

It is not necessary to book a vehicle in advance, because you can arrange this with the owner of the guest house after arrival. If you would only like to hire a vehicle without staying in a guest house, contact us after arrival for assistance.

Please let us know as far in advance as possible if you would like us to arrange accommodation. If you contact us two weeks or less before arrival we might not be able to assist, depending on availability. When making a booking, please supply us with your flight number and arrival date and time, as well as the number of people and the ages of any children.
