Important note regarding the current economic situation and employment opportunities in New Zealand:

Please note that the information supplied on these pages regarding employability is valid under normal economic conditions.

New Zealand, like most other countries, is experiencing an economic downturn.  While New Zealand has not been hit as hard as some other countries, unemployment is on the rise.  Since the beginning of 2009 our experience is that many immigrants are finding find it much harder than previously to find employment.  While many immigrants still do find jobs, many are struggling and even people with skills on the Skills Shortages List find it hard.  While we are under normal conditions able to give you a fairly good indication on employability based on your CV and our communication with recruitment agents, this is currently not possible.  We trust that the economy will improve soon.  However, in the meantime we would like to point out that you should, until further notice, not use the information below as an indication of employability.

Finding employment in New Zealand may be easy, difficult, or totally impossible, depending on a number of factors.

Your employability in New Zealand will be determined by many factors, of which the most important is of course your occupation. There are skills shortages in many areas. On the other hand, some skills that are in demand in your home country may not be in demand in New Zealand at all, because there may be an oversupply in the specific field, or there may not be such an industry in New Zealand.

Please select one of the following for more information on your specific occupation:

The type of assistance that we provide in finding employment, falls into one of the following categories:

  • We may be able to find an offer of employment without the need for you to visit New Zealand for interviews. Although this is frequently easier said than done, we have a proven track record in this regard. Examples in this case are medical doctors and registered nurses, who are in big demand in New Zealand.

We have regular recruitment seminars for this purpose. You are also invited to submit your CV to us at any time. We will then have a personal interview with you and report back to our associate in the nursing field who will then make the final decision.
  • In cases where it is not possible to arrange employment before you arrive in New Zealand, it may be possible to arrange interviews with potential employers.  An example here is IT professionals.

We hold regular recruitment seminars for this purpose.  We will then have a personal interview with you and report back to our associate IT recruitment company who will then decide on whether they would be able to arrange interviews before your arrival.
  • In some cases it might not be possible to line up interviews, although you might be employable.

In a case like this, typically we will have a personal interview with you during one of our recruitment trips, and then bring back your CV to create interest in you via one of our associate recruitment companies, with the view of immediately starting to market your skills upon arrival in New Zealand.
  •  In some cases, for example teachers and other occupations, it will not be possible or advisable to market you through a recruitment agent. In these cases we will assist you by means of a thorough coaching session on how to go about finding the job yourself. If you are falling in this category, you are not necessarily unemployable, but it just means that your specific occupation needs a certain approach in order for you to be successful. An example here is teachers. Although teachers with the right kind of skills (e.g. mathematics, science, computer studies and technical subjects) are in short supply in New Zealand, it is unlikely to find a job without physically being in New Zealand, and in most cases even unlikely to line up interviews before you arrive. You need to be in New Zealand before school principals will start to show any interest in you. This is true for many other occupations.
  • Finally of course, we may be of the opinion that you are not in an employable category, in which case we will not be able to assist at all.

Whatever route we follow we will, before you have to make any decisions, inform you about:

  • all the costs involved
  • your chances of success to obtain permanent residence
  • the procedure for applying for permanent residence
  • the method of job search that we propose in your specific case

Although we are not recruitment agents, we work in association with recruitment agents, and we have twelve years experience in the business of assisting people to move to New Zealand. Therefore we have a very good knowledge about the ease of employability and the way to approach the job search process in different job categories, and we will be able to give you an informed an honest opinion in your specific case.

We will also assist with preparation of your CV, as well as preparation for job interviews, in terms of the kind of questions you as a foreigner arriving in New Zealand might expect from potential employers. In cases where we are not able to assist with finding jobs or arranging interviews, we will at least be able to greatly increase your chances of finding a job and finding it faster.
